Some things to take in consideration when choosing a hardwood for your home are the hardness scale, the color variation scale and deciding between solid and engineered hardwood.

floors-hardwoodHARDNESS SCALE: How well the wood will have the ability to withstand foot traffic, children and pets. Oak, being strong and resilient, is the industry’s standard.

COLOR VARIATION SCALE: The normal color variation found in natural hardwoods differ from species to species. Each product is measured on “least”, “more” and “most”, to indicate the color variation from board to board among the species.

Solid hardwood is 3/4″ thick and can vary in width from 3″-5″.  Solid hardwood floors can either be nailed or glued down depending on the application.

Engineered hardwood is often mistaken for laminate flooring as it is not a solid hardwood. However, engineered hardwood IS real wood and can be nailed or glued down or floated. The difference between solid and engineered hardwood comes from under the surface. Engineered hardwood is maufactured by bonding together mulitple layers of wood in a cross-ply construction. This type of construction creates superior strength and dimensional stability against contraction and expansion.

The beauty of hardwood is that every board is unique. We strongly recommend that you visit our showroom to see each sample in person prior to making your hardwood flooring decision.
